Screw Diamonds . . . I'll Take Friends:

Johnny and Alanah

John Cole. He is the young fellow on the left. But more than that one of few friends I've have had for all of my conscious existence. It seems rare to hear about people who have been friends all of their lives. So I am glad I can say that we've been so.

In thinking about this I knew that I wanted to blog it, but what good would that do for our friendship? Therefore I told him. I told him that I've been glad that we have been friends for so long, that I'm excited to see his daughter (Alanah, on the left of the picture. She is so beautiful.) grow up, and that I greatly appreciate him. It felt good. I hope it was good for him too (that sounds kind of wrong?!). I think it is one of the first times we've touched the deep end of things.

I wish more of my friendships were like this, but anymore they are all so political and lifeless. I either feel like (in most cases) a ministry object or a child (at least treated like one). Both of which infuriate me. There is just something about a friendship that is allowed to take its course, and become what it will be without us trying to mold it, that is beautiful and life-bringing. Yet that seems to be lost and replaced with being purposeful and speaking into one another's lives: rules and how-to.

I blame this (as most problems) on organized religion; which of course can be laid on Satan.

Luv,
Clay
