Smells Like Burning:

Student loans can burn in the fiery sea of hell for all eternity!!! And SallieMae, the prophet to the beast, can be cast in as well!

Apparently the wonders behind the financial aid system have done it again. Pissed directly on my face and said "HA." Meaning this. 2-3 months ago I initiated the loan consolidation process with the above mentioned Sallie. Sallie, at the time told me this, "Your loans will take 2-4 weeks to process and it will be another 2 months or so before you will need to make a payment."

Wrong!

At a point in time, a point I don't know because the following arrived at my parent's home . . . unbeknownst to me, a letter containing a booklet of SallieMae coupons arrived. These letters in bold letters stated that Clay should pay them "$214.00ish."

To which my jaw dropped and said "Like hell!" You see the dilemma arose from this. Sallie, in our prior conference, told be that my loans would follow this plan, post consolidation, $83 a month for 3 years and $145 after that. So, my response to $214 was adequate and I promptly called Sallie and she informed me that everything was progressing wonderfully; to my comfort.

Wrong again!

Because today I recieved a booklet of coupons from FHSU saying I needed to start paying $40 dollars a month for a Perkins Loan. To which I mildly cursed and then promptly called Sallie. She was much less cordial.

I spoke with a foreign woman who only knew two bits of english and even less about loan consolidation. She told me that I owed over $400 in back payments and that my consolidation was not yet complete. People its been 2 months; at least. This should have been taken care of.

After 15 minutes of mindless banter she gave up and I was put on hold to be transferred to a loan consolidation department. After 15 minutes on hold I was "let go." And the other end went silent.

Ergo I know nothing. Fortunately, I have grilled cheese sandwiches made with pepper jack and english breakfast tea to soothe my frustrations.

Luv,
Clay

I consolidated my debts with Sallie about three days after graduating in May 2005. I called her several times over the summer to check on things and didn't get any sort of acknowledgement about my consolidation until November. Right before I had to start paying loans. She has no idea what she's doing.
