Gerrh. Well it began in a closet. Which I have mentioned before, but amazingly enough the books were only 3 boxes in, whew. Yet there were only four, hardback original prints, and 3, paperback with author signature. I wanted the hardback, but all 5 in the same print. That began the "quest" or a rather long day.
Maple Drive Books (bookstore #1) was to be our first destination since we were somewhat regulars back in 2001. It is here our story begins.
Bookstore #1: Closed Indefinitely (mildly saddened)
Bookstore #2: Same Fate
Break for Panera and coffee
Bookstore #3: Possible New Location of #2, but no book
Bookstore #4: Good, but no book
Bookstore #5: Couldn't Find
Bookstore #6: Doesn't Exist
Bookstore #7: Borders. Wrong Edition.
Bookstore #4: Ask Direction to Bookstore #5
Bookstore #5: No Book
Bookstore #8: Borders 2. Give up and buy First Copy of Compendium (foregoing all dreams of the 5th in hardback and just buying all 5 in one massive chunk), but it was dreadfully ugly and I couldn't live with that knowing there was better at . . .
Bookstore #7: Borders. Exchange First Copy of the Compendium for the one seen at right (Which I must add bears a striking resemblance to my copy of the New King James complete with ribbon bookmark . . . that is however before I wrapped it in duct tape, don't ask).
Too much for one book written by an uber-athiest? Yes, but it came with a brief, extra story about Zaphod. And honestly one thing just led to another which collided with my shear determination and wracked my brain. The whole of it was either God telling me not to buy the confounded thing or his way of giving me a hillarious blog. Either way I can't go back now!
Luv,
Clay
