I'm An Award Winning Journalist:

That is according to the Kansas Associated Collegiate Press which had their annual journalism convention and contest this past weekend. I wish, retrospectively, that I had gone, but I was slaving away at the Semalina instead (gotta pay for London somehow!) This is a contest where newspapers from colleges all over Kansas enter their work, columns, stories, cartoons, ad designs, and the paper itself, and judges do their judgement thing and award prizes for the best of everything.

I won three awards.

The first was third place in cartoons. Which is a blow. I thought my cartoons were quite witty and well drawn, but apparently once again no one understands my vision of Homo Lapin. What won was an editorial cartoon about Oktoberfest, its funny, but I like others better and I'm disappointed my comic strip was shafted!

Then I got third place for Ad Design with the following. It looks better on the hard version. The print lost some of the minor details. I'm, honestly, surprised that this won, or that I even won so much, because we were up against schools like Emporia and Pittsburgh State. Not to mention we're a third party paper who isn't backed by the school in any sort of fashion!

The last one got second for Ad Design. I'm not surprised at this one. I'm proud of my Safe Ride Ad. This is a masterful work of advertising . . . and I think I came up with it at about 3 am, some Wednesday night, when I was just screwing around and sleep deprived! Oh the wonders of sleep deprivation on the creative mind.

Luv,
Clay
